The shortlist
4 things that do it. Ours is in there, labelled, not on top.
Where one of our products fits, it sits in the list with an "ours" label, never forced to the top. Ours: made by the same studio that runs this site.

How they compare
Which one suits you, and why.
Which one suits you depends on which part of the post you want help with: the picture, the words, the scheduling, or all three.
If you want the whole post made for you
Predis.ai says its Instagram post maker writes the caption, picks the hashtags and designs the image to match from one line of text, in your brand's colours and fonts. It also schedules posts, and auto-posting is available on higher plans. It runs on the web, iOS and Android.
Posts are only half of Instagram these days, and if video is where you're heading, the picture changes a bit. I've put together a separate page on AI Instagram Reels tools, covering OpusClip, which cuts long videos into short clips and can auto post them, and Instagram's own Edits app, a free editor with auto captions and no watermark. Both are worth knowing about, just for different jobs.
The catch is the money. Its Instagram post maker page calls it free, but its pricing page says every plan starts with a 3-day trial that takes a card and charges when day 3 ends, so it is a trial rather than a free tier. Core is $24 a month billed yearly, $288 a year, for 1 brand and 1,300 credits a month, with no auto-posting. It was shown with $32 struck through under a banner offering up to 50% off yearly plans when we checked, and payments after the trial are non-refundable.
If you want it free
Buffer is a social media scheduler whose free forever plan connects up to 3 channels and includes its AI Assistant. Buffer describes the Assistant as helping you brainstorm ideas, rewrite content and craft platform-specific posts, and you schedule from the same place, on the web, iOS or Android.
What you give up is the picture. The Assistant's job is the words, so the image is up to you. The free plan also allows 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time.
If you design the images yourself
Canva is a design platform whose app has templates for social media posts, an AI video generator, a photo editor with a background eraser and an AI Post Writer that drafts captions when you share a design. The app is free on the UK App Store, and its listing says 5GB of storage for everyone. It runs on the web, iOS and Mac.
There is a gap in what we can tell you: canva.com blocked our checks, so these facts come from its App Store listing, which lists Canva Pro from £12.99 a month or £99.99 a year. We could not check its AI limits.
If the caption has to sound like you
ScriptGrain, which is ours, does one narrow part of the job. Our own tool measures your writing style from samples and drafts Instagram captions in that voice, one of its 16 content types, and scores every draft against your voice profile.
It writes the caption only: no images, design or scheduling, so with our own tool you would still need something like Canva for the picture and Buffer for the scheduling. Our free plan gives 1 voice profile, 1 writing analysis and 1 free draft for the life of the account, with no card. ScriptGrain's Writer plan, ours, is £12 a month or £115 a year, with 40 credits a month.
When paying is worth it
Paying is easiest to justify with Buffer. Essentials is $5 a month per channel, $60 billed yearly, and it is worth it once 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time is not enough. It gives unlimited scheduled posts, a hashtag manager and first comment scheduling, with a 14-day free trial.
With Predis.ai there is no free tier to outgrow, so the question is which plan. Core has no auto-posting; on Rise, at $55 a month billed yearly, the AI generates up to 2 posts a day per brand for you to review before they go out.
What to watch for
The catches worth knowing first.
Predis.ai's wording does not match across its own pages. The post maker page calls it free, while the pricing page says a card is taken and charged when day 3 ends. If you try it, cancel before the trial runs out unless you want to keep paying.
Predis.ai credits run down by output. Its Core plan's 1,300 credits a month is about 325 images or 33 videos, per its pricing page, so videos use credits much faster than images.
Buffer's free plan allows 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time, which you can refill as posts go out. It is a queue limit, not a lifetime one.

How we checked
What we read, and what we haven't tested yet.
On 2026-10-02 we read the Predis.ai pricing page and its Instagram post maker page, Buffer's pricing and AI Assistant pages, Canva's UK App Store listing, and the pricing page of ScriptGrain, our own product, along with our page listing its 16 content types. canva.com blocked our checks. We also looked at Hootsuite and Later, which are schedulers first. Nothing was tested hands-on.
If none of these fit
The manual way.
If you only need the words, any general AI chat assistant will draft a caption, and Buffer's free plan pairs an AI Assistant with scheduling. If you want the caption to sound like you, ScriptGrain (ours) has Instagram captions as one of its 16 content types. Hootsuite is another scheduler, with paid plans from $99 per user a month, billed annually, for Standard and a 14-day trial with no card.
