How they compare
Which one suits you, and why.
The right pick depends on what you want the clone for, so here they are by need.
If you want a professional grade clone
ElevenLabs is the one to look at if quality matters most to you. Its voice cloning page says 1 to 5 minutes of audio works well for an instant clone, and above that sits a Professional Voice Cloning option for higher quality, pitched at voiceovers, podcasts and audiobooks. It does text to speech in your cloned voice in 32+ languages, on the web, iOS and Android.
The catch is the way in. Instant cloning is not on the Free plan. The Free plan gives you 10,000 credits a month, but cloning starts on Starter at $6 a month, which also adds a commercial licence. Professional Voice Cloning starts on Creator at $22 a month. ElevenLabs' prices exclude taxes, and its pricing page offered the first month at $1 until 18 October when we checked.
If you edit podcasts or videos
If you already cut audio or video, Descript fits. Its AI Speaker clones your voice so you can fix a mistake or add a line by typing, and its Regenerate feature generates new speaker audio in your voice for exactly that. Descript says you can clone your voice in a minute.
What you give up is a standalone tool. Descript is a full editor for Mac and Windows, priced per person from $16 a month on Hobbyist billed annually, or $24 billed monthly, and Hobbyist lists AI Speech with custom voice clones. If you only want a clone and will not edit there, you are paying for an editor you do not use.
If you want it cheapest
Voice.ai's Starter plan is $5 a month, with 5 instant voice clones and a commercial licence, the lowest regular monthly price of the three, and you can use your clones in its real-time voice changer as well. It runs on Windows, Mac, iOS and the web.
The problem is that its own pages disagree. The voice changer page says you can create your own AI voices for free, but the pricing page lists no instant voice clones on the Free plan. Plan on needing Starter, and treat anything free as a bonus.
If you want a consent check built in
Descript sets out its consent step in full. A clone can only be made by the person whose voice it is, or by someone acting with their recorded authorisation, read from a set consent script. The statement has to be read in English, and Descript will not clone a deceased or non-consenting person.
That adds friction, but it is the point of the check. If the voice is yours, it costs you a minute of reading. ElevenLabs' cloning page also says it uses voice verification systems that confirm you have permission to clone a voice, though it does not publish a consent script the way Descript does.
When paying is worth it
Expect to pay to clone at all. ElevenLabs Starter at $6 a month is its entry point for instant cloning, and Creator at $22 a month adds Professional Voice Cloning. Voice.ai Starter is $5 a month. Descript has a $0 plan, but its comparison table marks custom voice clones as limited without a figure we could read, so its Hobbyist plan is the one that lists them.
If you want a clone that sounds as close to you as possible, the ElevenLabs Creator plan is where its higher quality option begins. If you want to patch a podcast you already edit, Descript's price buys the editor too. If you just want a cheap clone to try, Voice.ai's Starter has the lowest regular price of the three, although ElevenLabs' first month at $1 is cheaper to try until 18 October. Before paying anywhere, check exactly what the free plan allows on the day, because Voice.ai's pages already contradict each other.
What to watch for
The catches worth knowing first.
Read the rules before you upload anything. ElevenLabs' prohibited use policy bans using its audio to intentionally replicate another person's voice without consent or legal right. Descript says any attempt to bypass its consent process is a breach of its Terms of Service. It also says its clones are generated using a model based on US English pronunciation, so accents may not always be preserved accurately.
Voice.ai is less clear. Its ethics page says the technology can replicate any voice and is used for parody content. It describes a fake speech detection API, but the pages we read did not describe a consent check. That does not prove there is none, only that we did not see one. Where a service does not check, more of the responsibility for whose voice goes in sits with you.
One more gap: we did not find singing in a cloned voice on the pages we read for these three tools, so if you want your voice to sing, none of them is listed here for that.

How we checked
What we read, and what we haven't tested yet.
On 2026-10-02 we read ElevenLabs' voice cloning, pricing and prohibited use policy pages, Descript's AI voices and pricing pages and its help article on creating a voice clone, and Voice.ai's pricing, voice changer and ethics pages. Nothing was tested hands-on, and none of this is legal advice.
If none of these fit
The manual way.
If you only want to sound different rather than like yourself, a voice changer is the simpler tool. If you want to clone someone else's voice, Descript will not do it without that person's recorded consent, and ElevenLabs' policy bans replicating another person's voice without consent or legal right. None of our products clones voices.
