How they compare
Which one suits you, and why.
The first question is whether you need your voice changed live, in a game or a call, or only want effects on a recording. The picks below follow from that.
If you game or stream on a PC
Voicemod is a real-time voice changer and soundboard that installs a virtual microphone, which you then select as the input in Discord or your game. It offers 200+ voices and runs on Windows and Mac, with an iPhone app as well.
The free version gives you a rotation of voices, a clean mic effect and a soundboard, not the whole library; the full library needs Voicemod Pro. Voicemod's pricing page showed no prices when we checked, so the desktop Pro price is not given here. Its iPhone app is for sound memes and recording voice messages with effects, not changing your voice on a live call.
If you want AI voices free
Voice.ai's real-time AI voice changer for PC and Mac is described as completely free, with thousands of community-made voices you can use live in Zoom, Discord and games. The Free plan also includes an online voice changer, and it lists iOS and the web as well.
What you give up is any sense of where the voices came from. Many are user generated, including celebrity and character voices. Its paid plans, from $5 a month on Starter, are mainly for its text to speech and cloning, adding 5 instant voice clones and a commercial licence, so the live changer itself does not need one.
If you want something simple on Windows
Clownfish Voice Changer works system wide, so every app using the microphone is affected, including Steam, Skype, Discord and TeamSpeak. Its licence grants use free of charge, and the site shows sponsored links.
It is basic by design. The built-in effects are things such as male pitch, female pitch, helium, robot and radio; AI voices need a separate tool, VC Client, set up as an external effect. It supports Windows Vista to Windows 11 only, and installing needs administrator rights.
If you are on a phone
Voice changer with effects, from Baviux, records your voice and applies more than 50 effects, such as helium, robot and monster, on Android and iPhone. You can share the results on WhatsApp or by email. It is free with ads, and Remove ads is £3.99 on the UK App Store.
The limit is that it works on recordings, not live calls. It suits funny clips, not a live conversation.
If you want a natural sounding voiceover
ElevenLabs Voice Changer is a speech to speech tool: you record or upload audio and hear it in another voice, keeping your accent, emotion and timing, from a library of 10,000+ voices. It runs on the web.
What you give up is live use, because it converts recordings, with files up to 50MB, not a live microphone. It uses 1,000 credits per minute of voice changing, and the Free plan has 10,000 credits a month shared with every other tool. Starter is $6 a month, excluding taxes, with the first month at $1 until 18 October when we checked.
When paying is worth it
Pay for Voicemod Pro only if the free rotation of voices is not enough. Its site did not show the desktop Pro price; the iPhone app's UK App Store purchases include £3.99 a week, £5.99 a month, £11.99 a quarter, £23.90 a year and a £99.99 one-time licence. Voice.ai's live changer, Clownfish and the phone app are free to use, so try those first. ElevenLabs is worth paying for if you convert more than its free credits allow each month.
What to watch for
The catches worth knowing first.
Voice.ai's library is user generated and its app says you can sound like anyone, from celebrities to fictional characters. Check you have the right to use a voice before publishing anything made with it.
If Clownfish installs but your voice does not change, its FAQ says to check the microphone's Enhancements settings and try its four installation modes.
The Android version of Voice changer with effects contains ads and in-app purchases. On ElevenLabs, the credits are shared across all its tools, so anything else you make there leaves less for voice changing.
If you'd rather skip changing a recorded voice and just have one made from text, there's a whole other side to this. Our AI voice generator guide covers ElevenLabs, Murf and WellSaid, which turn typed words into natural voiceovers, plus CapCut's free online one. It also flags what free plans tend to leave out, like commercial use or downloads, which is easy to miss.

How we checked
What we read, and what we haven't tested yet.
On 2026-10-02 we read Voicemod's home page, the Voicemod, Voice.ai, Clownfish and ElevenLabs voice changer pages, the Voice.ai and ElevenLabs pricing pages, and UK App Store and Google Play listings. Voicemod's pricing page showed no prices. Nothing was tested hands-on.
If none of these fit
The manual way.
If you only want to sound different in a recording, the free phone app Voice changer with effects is the simplest route. For live voice in games or calls you need a desktop changer that installs a virtual microphone, such as Voicemod, Voice.ai or, on Windows, Clownfish. None of our products changes voices.
