How they compare
Which one suits you, and why.
If you want it free
Whering is a digital wardrobe app that styles outfits from your own clothes and lets you see friends' wardrobes. It says you can use it for free to manage and style your closet, with daily outfits created for you that get better with every tap, plus planning, packing and cost per wear.
The cost is certainty. It is an app, on iOS and Android, and its UK App Store listing shows in-app purchases: credit packs from £1.99 to £9.99, supporter options from £0.99 to £49.99, and an Outfit Maker at £4.99. We did not check what each one unlocks, so free here means free to start.
If you want AI to do the work
Acloset is an AI closet app that organises your clothes from photos and picks outfits for your schedule, weather and mood, with a virtual try-on preview. It also says it works in your desktop browser, through a Chrome extension for saving clothes from online stores and browsing your closet, so you are not tied to your phone. The app itself is on iOS and Android.
What you give up is a simple price. It is a free download with in-app purchases, and the richer AI features sit in paid plans and bean packs. On the UK App Store, Basic is £3.99 a month or £29.99 a year, Premium £9.99 a month or £59.99 a year, and Expert £24.99 a month.
If you want ideas each morning
Cladwell is an AI stylist and smart closet app that gives daily outfit ideas from clothes you already own, with the forecast, so you can decide what to wear without shopping.
It is a free download with in-app purchases, and we did not see what the free allowance covers. The UK App Store lists purchases from £2.99 to £59.99, with periods not always clear.
If you hate subscriptions
Stylebook is a closet organisation app for collaging outfits from your real clothes, with an outfit calendar and packing lists, and the app can also make outfits for you. It is a one-off £4.99 on the UK App Store, rather than a subscription, and it says it has over 90 features and calls itself the longest-running closet app.
The catch is that it is iPhone and iPad only, and it costs money up front, with no free tier to try first.
If you want a human stylist
Indyx is a digital wardrobe app with outfit boards, closet sharing and paid one-to-one styling from human stylists. The digital wardrobe is always free. On top of that you can book a stylist you choose, working entirely from your own closet or with up to 6 new suggestions mixed in. A Lookbook gets you ten outfits, or three in a Lookbook Mini.
Real people cost money. On the UK App Store, membership is £12.99 a month or £69.99 a year, and its site lists stylist services from US$150 for a Lookbook and US$60 for a Lookbook Mini, with the final price depending on the stylist you pick. Indyx's App Store listing promises no random outfits styled by robots, so it does not generate outfits automatically, while Acloset, Cladwell and Whering do.
When paying is worth it
Start free with Whering or Indyx's wardrobe. Pay for Acloset Basic, at £3.99 a month, if you want more AI styling, or Stylebook, at £4.99 once, if you want no subscription. Indyx's paid styling makes sense if you want a person, not software, choosing from your clothes.
On popularity, Cladwell's founder's page says it has over one million downloads, and Acloset says it is trusted by 8 million users worldwide. Both are the companies' own claims.
What to watch for
The catches worth knowing first.
Acloset sells bean packs, from 100 beans at £1.99, alongside its subscriptions, so check what each AI feature costs; a plan may not cover everything.
Cladwell's UK App Store listing shows weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual subscriptions from £2.99 to £59.99, so check which one you are buying before you confirm.
You have to add your clothes first. Every suggestion depends on the app knowing what you own, so expect to spend some time photographing your wardrobe before any of them is useful. Indyx takes your own photos, even messy hanger shots, and removes the background automatically.

How we checked
What we read, and what we haven't tested yet.
On 2026-10-02 we read the Whering, Acloset, Cladwell, Stylebook and Indyx websites, and the UK App Store listings for Whering, Acloset, Cladwell, Stylebook and Indyx. We did not open Android listings; Android is listed where a vendor's own site links to Google Play. Nothing was tested hands-on.
If none of these fit
The manual way.
If you would rather not photograph every item, Indyx says it accepts messy hanger shots and removes the background for you, and Acloset says it can detect every item from a mirror selfie.
