How they compare
Which one suits you, and why.
If you buy mostly on Amazon
Keepa is an Amazon price tracker with price history charts, price drop alerts, a browser extension and apps. It says it has charts for over 7 billion Amazon products, across international Amazon shops, and it alerts you when a price drops or a product is back in stock. It is free to add to Chrome, with price history and alerts.
What you give up is everything that is not Amazon. Keepa will not tell you whether another shop is cheaper. Its charts include New, Used and Warehouse Deals prices, Sales Rank and Buy Box history, and its app listing pitches that data at sellers as well as shoppers, so you can ignore the lines you do not use.
If you want a simple email when an Amazon price drops
CamelCamelCamel is an Amazon price history site with a browser extension called The Camelizer. The extension shows historical pricing and lets you set up watches that email you when the price drops. That is the whole job.
The cost is the same Amazon-only limit, plus some uncertainty. The Camelizer's Chrome Web Store listing states no price, and CamelCamelCamel's own site blocked our check, so what we say comes from that listing. It is on the web and in Chrome.
If you shop at lots of UK stores
PriceSpy is a UK price comparison site and app that gathers prices from the online shops it knows of. It shows price history for every product, so you can check whether now is a good time to buy, and its app has a barcode scanner for checking online prices while you are in a shop. It is free for consumers, on the web, iOS and Android.
You lose Amazon's fine-grained detail. PriceSpy focuses on comparison across shops rather than the detailed Amazon history Keepa shows.
If you want alerts across many shops
idealo is a price comparison site and app with price history, price alerts and a barcode scanner. Its Price Alerts send a push notification when a product reaches your desired price, and its app listing says it compares over 183 million offers from more than 30,000 shops. The app is free on the UK App Store.
Idealo covers gadgets and general shopping, but the weekly shop is a different beast, and it needs a different kind of tool. For that, there's a UK grocery price comparison guide, which looks at the free sites that line supermarkets up against each other. It also covers what Which? says about its monthly cheapest-supermarket results, and why you can't compare its totals from one month to the next.
The catch is that some features, such as the favourites list on every device, are currently only on idealo.de, per its listing. Its website blocked our check, so what we say comes from the app listing.
If you're also thinking about picking up or selling things second-hand, there's a related question that comes up a lot. We've pulled together a rundown of sites like Facebook Marketplace that works for UK buyers and sellers. It names the local classified options, says which one is free for most private sellers, and points to the best fit for clothes.
When paying is worth it
For shoppers, it is not needed. Keepa's price history and alerts are free, and Keepa Pro, at 29 euros a month on Keepa's own Pro page, is aimed at sellers researching products and competitors. PriceSpy is free for consumers, and idealo's app is free.
The real trade-off is depth or breadth. Keepa and CamelCamelCamel only track Amazon; PriceSpy and idealo compare many shops but focus on comparison rather than Amazon's detailed history. If you shop in both places, using one of each covers it.
What to watch for
The catches worth knowing first.
Keepa says its history helps you see through fake discounts and find the lowest historical price, so check the chart before trusting a sale badge. A reduced price that matches where the product has sat for months is not much of a reduction.
PriceSpy is funded by shops paying per click-through. It explains this itself, says it always shows all known prices from lowest to highest, and says nobody can pay for a higher ranking. Even so, it is a business paid by the shops it lists, and it is worth knowing who pays the bills.
The Camelizer extension supports Amazon in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia only. Its listing names no other Amazon sites.
For checking prices in a physical shop, PriceSpy's and idealo's apps include barcode scanners, and so does Keepa's app.

How we checked
What we read, and what we haven't tested yet.
On 2026-10-02 we read the Keepa homepage and its Pro data page, PriceSpy's homepage and about page, The Camelizer's Chrome Web Store listing, and the UK App Store listings for Keepa, PriceSpy and idealo. CamelCamelCamel's own site and idealo's website blocked our requests, so their facts come from those listings. Keepa's pages load in the browser, so we read them rendered. Nothing was tested hands-on.
If none of these fit
The manual way.
If you only shop on Amazon, Keepa and CamelCamelCamel cover it; for everything else, PriceSpy and idealo compare many shops.
Keepa's app and PriceSpy's app also scan barcodes in physical shops to check online prices, so you can see what something costs online before you reach the till.
