# Is there an ai that can make video games?

**Answer: partly.** Partly. Rosebud turns a description into a browser game, while GDevelop, Roblox Studio's Assistant and Unity's AI tools help you build inside a game engine. Ludo.ai is mainly for game assets, not whole games. (Source: [Rosebud AI pricing](https://rosebud.ai/pricing))

Partly. Rosebud turns a written description into a browser game, while GDevelop, Roblox Studio's Assistant and Unity's AI tools help you build inside a game engine. Ludo.ai is mainly for game assets, such as art and sound, rather than whole games.

## The shortlist

### Rosebud AI

An AI game maker: describe your game or pick a template, and it creates the game in your browser.

- Link: https://rosebud.ai/
- Free tier: yes. A free plan exists; paid plans add more credits and features (Rosebud pricing).
- Paid from: US$15/month (Indie Dev US$15 a month, 10x Dev US$30, Pro US$50, and a US$100 tier, each with monthly credits)
- Best at: Going from a written idea to a playable game with no engine to install.
- The catch: Complete commercial rights to your games and removing Rosebud branding start at the 10x Dev plan (US$30 a month).
- Platforms: web

### GDevelop

A free, open-source, no-code game engine with an AI tutor that answers questions and builds game mechanics.

- Link: https://gdevelop.io/
- Free tier: yes. Create your first game 100% free, with 40 free AI credits a month; publish to Android or desktop once per day (GDevelop).
- Paid from: €6.99/month (shown to us in euros (eurozone pricing): Silver €6.99, Gold €12.99, Pro €35.99 a month; UK prices not checked; yearly saves up to 40%, GDevelop says)
- Best at: Learning to make games without code, with AI help, and publishing to web, Android, Steam and iOS.
- The catch: AI use is metered in credits: 40 a month on the free plan, then weekly allowances on paid plans; publishing to iOS needs the Gold plan.
- Platforms: web, windows, mac, linux, ios, android

### Roblox Studio Assistant

An AI helper inside Roblox Studio that answers questions, writes and edits scripts, and generates materials and 3D meshes.

- Free tier: not verified. Roblox Studio itself is a free application; Roblox's Assistant guide states no price for Assistant.
- Paid from: not checked (not stated on Roblox's Assistant guide)

- The catch: Only for Roblox experiences, and procedural model generation is limited to 50 in a rolling 24 hours.
- Platforms: windows, mac
- Source: [Roblox Creator Hub: Assistant for Studio](https://create.roblox.com/docs/assistant/guide)

### Unity's AI tools

AI tools inside the Unity engine (Unity is retiring the "Unity AI" name): an agentic assistant built for Unity workflows, plus an AI gateway and an MCP server.

- Link: https://unity.com/products/ai

- The catch: Needs Unity 6 or newer; parts are still in beta, and the assistant runs on paid credits.
- Platforms: windows, mac, linux
- Source: [Unity AI](https://unity.com/products/ai)

### Ludo.ai

An AI generator for game assets: sprites, icons, UI, textures, music, 3D and video, ready to drop into an engine, plus game concepts and playable prototypes.

- Best at: Making the art and sound for a game you are building elsewhere.
- The catch: Its focus is assets; it can also generate a playable prototype, but not a finished game.
- Platforms: web

## How they compare

### If you want a game from a written description
Rosebud AI is an AI game maker: you describe your game or pick a template, and it creates the game in your browser, with no engine to install. It runs on the web, and there is a free plan, with paid plans adding more credits and features.

What you give up later is rights. Rosebud's cheaper Indie Dev plan, at US$15 a month, does not include complete commercial rights to your games. Those start at the 10x Dev plan, at US$30 a month, which also removes Rosebud branding. Above that sit Pro at US$50 and a US$100 tier, each with monthly credits.

### If you want to learn while the AI helps
GDevelop is a free, open-source, no-code game engine with an AI tutor that answers questions and builds game mechanics. You see how a game is put together instead of being handed one, and you can publish to the web, Android, Steam and iOS. It runs on the web, Windows, Mac and Linux, with mobile apps for iOS and Android.

GDevelop says you can create your first game 100% free, with 40 free AI credits a month, and publish to Android or desktop once per day. The catch is that AI use is metered. The plans scale it: the free plan gives 40 AI credits a month, Silver 200 a week, Gold 1,000 a week and Pro 3000 a week. Prices were shown to us in euros, Silver €6.99, Gold €12.99 and Pro €35.99 a month, which may differ where you are, and GDevelop says yearly billing saves up to 40%.

### If you want to make a Roblox game
Roblox Studio Assistant is an AI helper inside Roblox Studio. It answers questions, writes and edits scripts, explains code, and generates materials and 3D meshes. It can act directly on your place, creating and modifying objects and scripts.

It is only for Roblox experiences, and procedural model generation is limited to 50 in a rolling 24 hours. Roblox Studio itself is a free application, but Roblox's Assistant guide states no price for Assistant, so we have not listed one. Studio runs on Windows and Mac.

### If you are already using Unity
Unity's AI tools sit inside the Unity engine (Unity is retiring the Unity AI name): an agentic assistant built for Unity workflows, plus an AI gateway and an MCP server. The assistant uses deep context from your project, lets you set permissions on how much the agent does by itself, and supports undo and tagging of AI-generated assets, which matters on a serious project.

The cost is setup and credits. They need Unity 6 or newer, the AI package, accepting in-editor terms and linking to a Unity Cloud project, and parts are still in beta. There is a one-time free trial of 1,000 credits, used within 14 days, and the MCP server is free. After that, Personal users pay US$10 a month for 1,000 AI credits; it is included in Pro, Enterprise and Industry seats.

### If you only need the art
Ludo.ai is an AI generator for game assets: sprites, icons, UI, textures, music, 3D and video, ready to drop into an engine. It suits a game you are building somewhere else. You get 30 free credits to start, with no credit card. Indie is US$15 a month paid annually, which is US$180 a year for 3,000 credits, and Pro is US$35 a month paid annually, or US$420 a year. It can also generate game concepts and a playable prototype, but its focus is assets, not a finished game.

### When paying is worth it
Pay when you want to sell the game or publish widely. Rosebud's commercial rights start at US$30 a month, and GDevelop's iOS publishing starts at Gold, which was €12.99 a month when we looked. Until then, the free plans on Rosebud, GDevelop and Ludo.ai, and Unity's trial, are enough to find out whether the tool suits you.

## What to watch for

GDevelop says companies with more than US$50,000 revenue a year must use its Pro membership, so if you are making a game for a business, check that before you start.

Unity's free trial converts to a US$10 a month subscription for Personal users. That is worth knowing before you start the trial rather than after.

On Ludo.ai, API, MCP and CLI calls always use credits, and unlimited use applies to the web app only. If you plan to automate anything, that is where your credits go.

Across most of these tools, credits set the limit on how much AI help you get, so read each plan's credit numbers alongside its feature list.

## How we checked

On 2026-10-02 we read Rosebud's homepage and pricing page, GDevelop's homepage, pricing and download pages, Roblox's Assistant for Studio guide and Studio setup page, Unity's AI page and Unity 6 system requirements, and Ludo.ai's homepage and pricing page. GDevelop showed us euro prices, which may differ in the UK. Nothing was tested hands-on, so this is what each company says about its own tool.

## If none of these fit

If you want to make a game without AI doing it, GDevelop's free engine uses a no-code event system. If you want help with only the art, Ludo.ai generates sprites, icons and 3D assets for whatever engine you use.

On ownership, it depends on each tool's terms. On Rosebud, complete commercial rights come with the 10x Dev plan and above, so read the terms before you sell anything you made.
